Top Shelf

The decorating of our Christmas tree has always been a family affair, even when the girls were smaller and they hung all the ornaments on one side of the tree. There is a story with every ornament. Activities and hobbies we have enjoyed, our first home, ornaments from past students of mine, or ornaments the girls made. We have always been careful to hang the most fragile ornaments at the top of the tree so they are safe from our cats and dogs. This year, as the three of us hung ornaments while reminiscing about each one, Caroline said, "I'm hanging all of Pa's at the top." I looked over at the tree and sure enough, all of his ornaments were at the top, taking the place of the usual ornaments we hang at the top. So, a new tradition has started. Todd's ornaments collected over the years are now Top Shelf...just like he liked his bourbon!

While Christmas morning will never be the same again, the girls and I focused on memories of this time of year with Todd. There is always a story to tell and it is interesting to hear the same story from each or our perspectives. I am so fortunate to have such wonderful girls!

We wish you a Happy New Year and share a couple "Happy New Year" wishes from Todd's journals.
